One day I asked my youngest daughter if she would like to be a character in one of my books. Of course, she said yes. Then I made the mistake of asking for her input.
She wanted a dragon book!
There are approximately 8 billion dragon books on the market, give or take a million. The last thing I wanted to write was a dragon book. I especially didn’t want to rehash old dragon stories and tales. I needed something new and fresh. Most importantly, I needed something that had the potential for comedy. You see, I wanted this series to be fun, with adventure and humor.
Dragons… funny… hmmm. I know what you’re thinking. “Are you serious?” Yep. I wanted something totally different, something new. So I came up with the idea of introducing dragons into our everyday modern world. But how to place them there? That was the problem. Then it came to me and I begin writing.
Long ago there lived a race of intelligent beings many light-years from our own homeworld? They were known as the Gilst. They lived much as we do. They loved, raised families, and tried to better themselves. Then one day the unthinkable happened. A planet-sized comet entered their solar system, heading straight for their sun. Left with little time, they hurriedly placed seven genetically modified embryos into a storage system and then placed that system into a spacecraft, shooting it off into space. They placed the care of these unborn into the computerized hands of an artificial intelligence system that also operated the ship. The computer’s instructions were simple. Find a suitable world and rebirth the Gilst race from these seven fragile embryos.
500 years later the Gilst ship entered our solar system where it became damaged during a meteor strike. Left with no other option the computer intelligence landed in the forests of North America on the Oregon coast. That’s when the computer faced its first major hurdle. The large, gentle, and intelligent Gilst didn’t resemble the humans of earth in any way. Not even close. But they did resemble a mythical creature from earth’s past. That wonderful creature was known on this blue world as a dragon. And unlike the Gilst, they weren’t well behaved at all!
So what happens when you mix humans, aliens, (who look like dragons) a redheaded teenage girl, and incompetent government officials? A recipe for fun and adventure.
So buckle up and set your mind on fun. Packed with action, laughs, and loads of adventure, this is a series that will keep you captivated for many hours.
Each book represents the birth of another Gilst. This the reason for a seven book series. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed making this fun tale.
